A gorgeous park in Pomfret, CT, Mashamoquet Brook State Park is the perfect place to get in a helping of outdoor time. Here you’ll find such historic sites as the Wolf Den—the site of Israel Putnam’s legendary wolf slaying—and the Clayton Grist Mill. Natural attractions within the park include the “Table Rock” and “Indian Chair” stone formations, as well as the beautiful woods and clear brook located on the 1000+ acres of land. 

The weather in Mashamoquet Brook State Park is perfect in the summertime, when the water is warm enough for swimming. That said, hiking and picnicking can be done in the slightly cooler temperatures of Connecticut’s spring and fall. Winter in this park is very chilly, making it a much less exciting time to visit.

Peppertree Campground

Another great place to stay to the west of Mashamoquet Brook State Park is the privately owned Peppertree Campground. This park offers activities to keep guests entertained between visits to local attractions, as well as a variety of other amenities. Rates are a bit high, but considering what you get in exchange, we’d say they’re fair enough.

If you’re visiting during the week or if you are a resident of Connecticut, there is no fee to enter the park. Out-of-state visitors who choose to visit on the weekend will be expected to pay a small fee to park. Additionally, those who will be camping in the park will need to pay the appropriate camping fees.
